Maintenance Worker

Monthly Salary: $2,757-$3,351. The city of Glendora is seeking a maintenance worker for the public works water division. (Please note: This eligibility list may also be used to hire Maintenance Workers in other city departments.)ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Participates in the work of a water distribution crew engaged in installing, removing, and repairing large and small services; cutting, fitting, laying and repairing water mains; cleaning and flushing water mains; repairing mains, valves and hydrants; inspecting, testing, and operating valves, fittings and related water distribution equipment; keeping truck stocked with supplies and materials; repairing fire hydrants and flow testing related equipment; locating, excavating and repairing water lines and related facilities; inspecting water projects for leaks, decayed pipes, and spills; installing barricades and routing traffic in a safe manner; removes graffiti by sandblasting, chemically cleaning and painting surfaces; uses a variety of equipment and tools such as sandblaster, airless pump machine, rollers, trucks, etc.; answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies, taking appropriate action such as placing barricades and performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES: Education and/or Experience: Applicants must have any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include high school graduation or equivalent and two years of experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Knowledge and Skill Levels: Working knowledge of common tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance work, basic safety precautions and procedures; traffic laws, ordinances and rules related to truck and heavy equipment operations; equipment and procedures involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer systems; related laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; procedures, equipment, materials, and tools used in the operation of motors, pumps, compressors, electrical panels, automatic controls, valves, and other equipment; chlorinators and domestic water sampling techniques; mathematical principles related to the computation of flows and volumes in water storage and distribution systems; skill in the operation of a variety of equipment and vehicles, and use of hand and power tools. Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain a Class B California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. The successful candidate for the Public Works, Water Division position must be able to perform 24-hour pager standby duty on a rotating basis.
